About Me

Hmmm... About me...

I'm 31, been married for almost 6 years to a really great guy named Brad, and have two kids (boy: Brady, age 4, girl: Makenna, age 10 months), oh and 2 Labs that spend more time driving me nuts than anything else.

Growing up, I enjoyed sports (basketball was my favorite, but also participated in volleyball and track) but once high school started, I no longer had time for them. Decided that instead of warming the bench, I'd get a job and make some money.

In college, I dabbled in running, but it never took off.  In 2000, I joined the Army National Guard and learned that running was a requirement (as were push-ups and sit-ups).  But, I only had to run once a year, and only two miles... big deal. It's not surprising I had so many problems passing the PT tests each year!

In 2003, I got a full time job with the Army National Guard and met my husband. In 2004, I started running and doing other forms of exercise to help me lose weight before our wedding in 2005. I didn't get very far with those weight loss dreams.

In 2006, I got pregnant. In 2007, after having our son, I started running again. And even signed up to do a half marathon with my friend, Crystal. It was also during this year that I was told I'd be deploying to Egypt for one year in 2008. I trained and trained, and just a couple of months before the half marathon, I developed ITBS and had to visit with a physical therapist.  This curtailed my running a little, but what really did me in was getting pneumonia just three weeks before half.  A week prior to the half marathon, I was done taking antibiotics and felt good, so I agreed to take a PT test. I did really well on the run for this PT test, but later ended up in the hospital with a migraine and was told it was caused by over-exertion so soon after the pneumonia. Well, that pretty much nixed the half marathon. Even if the doctors had ok'ed it, Brad, my husband, said absolutely not.

Attempted to do the running thing again in 2008 and into 2009, but nothing serious. In 2009, I got pregnant with my daughter. In the summer of 2010, after the doctor released me to exercise again, I started walking then running.  I started setting race goals instantly; 5ks, 10k, 15k, and a 10 miler.  Then I decided to do a half, with Team in Training. That race was completed this past February, just 2 short weeks ago... and now I have a list of races I intend to train for and finish this year. These races will earn me Half Fanatics membership and Marathon Maniacs membership, as well as CrAzY Runner Chick status as well.

So, welcome to my journey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I hope to enjoy it!
